Global Akhanda Bhajan is a 24-hour global devotional singing event, done for the welfare of humanity every year. It started in 1944, in Bangalore, where nine families met in the divine presence of Sri Sathya Sai Baba to conduct the bhajans.
From the humble beginning attended by 150 people, this Bhajan is now conducted every year during the second weekend of November, at Sai Centers all across the globe. This bhajan also heralds the birthday celebrations of Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
“Bhajan is the process of singing that originates in the heart, not from the lips or the tongue. It is the expression of the joyous thrill that wells up from the heart when the Glory of God is remembered. It is the spontaneous manifestation of inner ecstasy. No attention is paid to the blame or praise that others may give. It does not seek the admiration or the appreciation of the listeners.”
